Digesting Death

A FESTIVE MOURNING RITUAL IN SEVEN COURSES

Digesting Death is a multi-sensory dinner performance Inspired by funeral foods, mourning rituals, and death customs from all around the world, hosted by chef Finn Thomas Gorringe and performer Laila Claessen.

Through eating, listening, and speaking, guests become part of a slowly unfolding ritual in which death is no longer pushed under the table, but slowly digested. Together. We will travel together through India and Iceland,
crossing Greece and Tibet,
and then all the way back.
Towards undigested terrain,
somewhere between the gut and the brain.

This dinner explores how ritual and taste can make the experience of death more bearable. Think of a blood-red bone broth, a fallen angel dressed like a roasted pigeon, and a singing ghost rising from the table.

“There’s no better way to prove you’re alive than by eating.”
